September 2021 saw a small select band of golfingtoners make their way to Highgate Wood for the second annual Autumn Championships. It was a warm, sunny day and after a taste of Tio Pepe’s finest we set out for the first tee.
The game got off to a difficult start for all players. On the first hole, there were no birdies and only one par. On the second, the lowest score was two over par! We played the second hole in the opposite direction to previous tournaments, making it much easier to access from the first.
From there on it progressed better, with regular pars on most holes.
The pre-tournament course inspection had found that the much-loved hollow stump hole for the 8th hole “Are You Red Squirrel?” had fallen over, been removed or otherwise disappeared. Thankfully another suitable hollow stump presented itself within range and we did not need to change the par for the hole!
The last hole, “V for Victory”, proved to be the opposite of the first hole score-wise, resulting in two pars, two eagles and an albatross for the players!
Stephen was the winner on the day, and is looking a little bit too smug here for a winner who was also in charge of the scoring.
Megan was the Best Dressed winner, also sporting the very useful Golfington Wheelie Bag!
